Chinese builds

Postby DJKOR » Fri Sep 06, 2013 10:04 am

Whilst searching around the interwebs (while in Hong Kong/China of all places), I managed to stumble across a forum where people are discussing their SSTC/DRSSTC builds (so it seems). While I don't suggest following anything listed here, you gotta give these guys credit for managing to build these things. I seriously lost my s*** seeing the way some of these things are built yet working surprisingly well.

Some of those builds are huge. Even with low cost Asian sources for the components, they must be quite expensive.

What is so bad about the builds?
Looks nice and clean in the first two examples, and somewhat low-on-resources in the last one.

Maybe I'm a little OCD and reckon those look quite a bit on the homebrew side. Don't get me wrong, it's quite a masterpiece in it's own little way, but it's kind of funny to see how they are making working tesla coils.

Homebrew coils are lovely and work for a while, but I've found that a little OCD'ness goes a long way into making a coil reliable ("shit, the gate drive wire fell off the brick" is never something you want to say)
