Behold the Mini SGTC!

As I await for my parts in the mail for my spark gap coil I decided to have some fun. To test out my winding jig I made I wound and lacquered this tiny secondary. Thought it looked neat so I made a quick topload for it. Thought that was way to cool and had to fire it up. First I made a capacitor but that shortly shorted out so I just used my MMC for my large coil thats in progress. Overkill yes. The coil actually performed better with the makeshift cap that I estimate to be around .0020uF. This MMC is .01764uF. I have all sorts of coupling issues and tuning issues but who cares. The damn thing stands 5 inches :)

Here it is with the primary and aluminum foil cap.

And a small video. Up too 1.5" arcs. May have to sit down on java and see what it can do. My cheap scope is no good at 1.1Mhz (Now 2.3MHz) :)

Yeah I reorganized my photobucket and all links are bad now :( its 650 turns of 30AWG. Stand about 6 inches tall. 2.3MHz measured on the scope.

7.5kV x 30mA (looking for a 15kV @ 60mA if you happen to have one)

Hehe... we made a new coil last night too... 6" tall x 1 5/8" x 38AWG secondary with a stainless toroid, helical primary, MMC and powered by a oneTesla driver board. 12" arcs, 9" streamers to air, and only draws 50A per IGBT. The resonant frequency was about 382kHz. We had it emulating a QCW with a 3000ns duty cycle, and I'm sorry I don't have a video of that because the swords were awesome... but then we blew the IGBTs. =( It was still fun as hell and damn that thing is cute. (we also had 2 smaller secondaries, but had actual work to do last night so we didn't test them.)

Time for the cuteness to show itself in the Tesla Coil community. lol

By the way... Awesome SGTC. =)

That thing is so awesome! Yeah I wish mine was lower. Hard to push out much at my frequency. Had 30 AWG from another project. Wish I had 38 or even 40 for thid but honestly this was just a test wind on my jig to confirm it worked.
