OneTeslaTS Schematic Question

Hi, I've been looking over the OneTeslaTS schematics and I see three inversions on the input of the top gate driver. Would it better to tap the signal before the second inverter (so the signal goes through a Schmitt-triggered inverter once instead of three times) to reduce latency, or is this necessary to ensure the signal is squared up well? It almost seems like this was done just because the chip was already on the board and there were open pins. What are the performance advantages/disadvantages over the single pass?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Which section on the schematic do you feel could be omitted or rerouted ?
The first section (pins 1-2) gives the input signal some hysterisis.
The second section (pins 3-4) inverts the signal for the 74hct74
The third section (pins 5-6) is due to the fact that both coil drivers are the same. If they both sent out low and high signals at the same time the gate transformer wouldn't work.
The last section (pins 13-12) are for the optical interrupt signal which triggers the whole system.

Hi,
It seems like pins 5-6 could be omitted by just taking the output of pin 2 and feeding it to the point where the output of pin 6 presently goes. This would also reduce latency in the signal (probably by an insignificant amount.)

Hi,

It seems the output of pin 2 could be used instead of the output of pin 6. This would also reduce latency a little which might help if you're operating at higher frequencies.
