This is a simple 3 step tutorial on how to make the rod come out of the toroid instead of laying on top of it.

1. Use a metal saw to cut a hole into the bottom part of the toroid. Even a cheap saw will cut it like butter:

2. Use a rasp to cut a notch into the bottom part of the toroid. Then cut the rod to the appropriate length and place it like on the image. Tape it on using duct tape. It's important that it doesn't stick out, otherwise you'll have a gap between the upper and lower part of the toroid:

3. The rod is sticking out of the toroid and it fits and sits :)

It's simple, but I thought it would be nice showing it off.

Doesn't doing this increase the risk of arcing down to the sensitive bits below?

The arcs usually strike the floor with this constellation. Very rarely they hit the GND cable of the secondary coil inside the acryl cage, but I found it not to be harmful at all.
