Finally! At long last, my OneTesla has burst into life!

Many thanks to Alex and others who offered suggestions on how to get my One tesla working. After ordering new optical receivers from the US I fitted them last night and performed the low and high voltage tests successfully.

I plugged everything in and waited in anticipation... nothing! Then I swapped over the 21 and 22 ICs and boom! Sparks started flying. I was like a little kid on Christmas morning - absolutely buzzing! :D

I am using synthesia on the Mac and have used a few of the midi files I found on the site - many thanks to everyone who has posted :)

Not sure if synthesia is missing sending some notes to my coil, or whether I still have work to do to tune it (how do I go about doing that???) but some of the songs (like Beat it below) are obviously missing some sections... Any remedies to this?

There seems to be a few flashover points so I'll give the plastic coil holders a little sand down as suggested to smooth off the edges and get some polyurethane varnish to recoat the secondary.

Anyway, even though it's not perfect I am soon happy to get this up and running - my High School students loved it - should help boost my Physics numbers next year 8-)

haha happy you got it working!

you are getting a lot of flashovers, make sure your ground connection from the bottom of your secondary is very good, as well as the ground in your outlet.

i would try to resolve the problem before running the coil more, each flashover burns off a little coating on the secondary, and soon the secondary will be unusable. I'm not sure how well sanding down the acrylic will help.

I was experiencing the same problem with synthesia on my mac! it would miss a few notes. I just run windows on my mac now and synthesia runs fine.

Hi Alex,

The ground connection seems to be good (reading 0 Ohms between bottom of secondary and connection to ground pin on 230V input), and the resistance of the secondary coil is right on 250 Ohms as per the manual. I've checked the power cable (I'm using a US -->UK three pin adapter but the ground lead looks fine, showing 0 Ohm resistance)... Anything else I could try?

I've signed up for the new flash card interrupter design, so hopefully this will get round the issue of Synthesia in the future!

Cheers!

Managed to get some new software from the app store - best 79p ever spent! MidiPlayerX - plays the midi files on a Mac much better than Synthesis ever did... Check out ACDC's Thunderstruck below:

nice!

I might have to end up getting that ^.^
though I still need to use FLStudio to play songs with two coils so I'm still going to have to run windows to run my coils.

still baffled as to why not all of the notes make it through synthesia on a mac.
