OneTesla board without kit.

Best spark length is around 9 inches.

Update : Over 1 foot not counting curves. :D

Watch on youtube.com

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO4VceLEwWw
Primary: 6.5 turns of 14 AWG on a 3.5" PVC former
Secondary: 2.5x8.5", 36 AWG with a 2x8 (amazing1) topload. Resonant frequency is ~220KHz
Secondary resistance is 540 ohms.(not a onetesla secondary) I have had flashover at the top
of the windings so there could be some breaks. Wish I had a before and after spec.

You can see from the pic I had to modify the board due to several igbt failures.
I was using Steve wards interupter with burst mode. It works good with
his sstc and drsstc coils but the pulse width goes way to long for this coil.

EDIT: I added some protection circuitry to my board.
I first installed a pair of MUR860 freewheeling diodes across each IGBT. Still lost a pair of IGBTs
Next I installed a string of 1.5ke220 across each IGBT. After that last change I havent lost a single thing.
I think my bus caps were "ringing up?" and exceeding the IGBTs 600 volt rating.
A snubber cap might also be a quick fix to help with any slight tuning issues.

Check your secondary grounding; the coil goes way off tune if you don't ground it.

All boxed up with a $9.00 temp gauge from ebay.
Temp probe is attached to the front of one igbt.
Temp gauge is unaffected by tesla operation.

Sorry for the poor quality of the video. 18-20 inch ground strikes.
Temp levels off around 130 f.

Nice! Good to have that temperature gauge. Gotta get myself one of those.

The sellers name is IAWOO
Expect slow shipping (2 weeks)
but it was well packaged and cheap.

It looks like they are out of the blue ones.

Tonight I ran an extreme stress test on my onetesla board.

600 hz at 150us on time.
18 inch ground strikes
Drawing 3 amps from 110 mains.

After a continuous 10 minute run my IGBT temperatures leveled off at 112 degrees
My primary was at 99 degrees and the secondary at 155 degrees.

I think the TVS protection is the key to saving the IGBTs with my board.

See edit in first post.

What is your primary and secondary resonant frequency without the spark? I know this is not a standard kit, but the relative difference between the frequency at low power and the lower frequency from a streamer being present should be relevant also for the official kit. I am desperately looking for reference data to get a grip on what to aim for when tuning on low power. This board is full of people who have tuning problems, like me, so we would really like to see some more information on the success stories, like yours.

Yes, that's the kind of gizmo you could use. It's a very simple device to install. Just connect it to a supply voltage. Most of thses things run on 5V, and most are also quite flexible and can be powered by a fairly wide range of voltages. Then place it on the thing you want to know the temperature of, with the display facing so that you can read it.
