I am guessing I could dasiy chain it off the system fan ... then cut a litle hole in the side of the case or even just glue it on the outside of the case without cutting ... would it be over kill to get one for each IGBT / or to find a slightly higher spec gauge that has two probes and can keep an eye on both :) ..

Yes, that's the same temp gauge I purchased from ebay. Mine is wired in with the fan supply.
It could also be powered from the 19v main logic supply.

As far as adding protection circuit to an unmodded onetesla board its going to be tough.
Not alot of room on the board around the IGBTs.

I took a scrap piece of pc board and etched six heavy lines to act as a bridge from the board to the IGBTs.
It gave me alot of room to add a series pair of 1.5KE220 across the emitter and collector of each transistor.
Each 1.5KE220 clamps at around 220 volts so a pair in series across each IGBTs emitter and collector would
clamp down around 440-500 volts. This prevents the IGBTs from going over the 600v rating.
Below the 1.5KE220s are a pair of mur860 diodes which may not be doing any good as I still had failures
after installing them.

If my IGBT's let out the smoke (touch wood, I'm still on my first pair), I'm planning on doing something similar to you where the IGBT's aren't mounted directly on the board (because I have never been a fan of removing components from a PCB more than once). Would you say that the additional modifications you have made do really make a difference with regards to protection or is it more of a "hopefully it is making a difference"? Wouldn't hurt to implement it though in any case right?

indeed, the most challenging aspect for me so far has been the " reworking" required when things go bad , in fact if I had not had backwards LEDS , I think I would have had this baby up and running a month ago :) , my bad skills at rework stage are the source of my dead IGBTS and dead diodes ...

I wonder if some people with more experience than me can tell me about mounting diodes in " axil" configuration using "vector push ins" like "method 2 " below..seems to increase airflow, and therefore thermal resistance increases, also seems to have the benefit , of a more "modular " design , with the things most likely to die being easier to remove..

I like what you have done here with an alternate way to install the igbts and heat sink that would be easier to swap out as well

You've got to edit your previous posts according to how it was said in the Announcement thread.

It's a picture of a high voltage warning label on my SSTC coil.
