Re: Robustness of the kit
you should use minwax fast drying polyurethane, or epoxy. spray isn't as practical for applying it. you shouldn't be able to feel the windings when you run your nail down the secondary.

Hm, still can feel the windings. The next time I see a flashover, I'll respray it, twice. I don't have other varnish nor do I want to mix different varnishes now that I used this one, so I'll stick to clear varnish.

If you want to get something 3d printed and you have the file. You can use companies like Shapeways or quickparts.

The oneTeslaTS endcaps are actually much more robust than the originals. Knowing the endcaps were a weak point of the original kit, we spent a good deal of time designing endcaps that would never fall apart once you put them together.
Take a look at the diagram in the oneTeslaTS manual on the downloads page to see how the new ones are assembled. It's a stack of acrylic discs that hold bolts and nuts captive. The same endcaps fit the original secondary coils.

Because screws are always superior to glue
That's why you use them for the new controller, which I already pre pruchased.
